Community Works is pleased to be part of Climate for Communities, a new city-wide partnership programme led by the Trust for Developing Communities (TDC) and funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. The programme runs for three years and will support diverse communities in Brighton & Hove to participate in climate action.

The partnership includes 17 organisations including Brighton & Hove City Council, Climate Outreach and a range of voluntary and community sector groups.  The project will produce accessible, community-based climate activities, which will address the increased cost of living and the health and wellbeing challenges people are facing.

TDC said, “The long-term vision of the project is for the city to become a thriving system of accessible, inclusive and impactful climate activity, with a green economy that brings communities together with public, private, education and voluntary sectors to ensure a just and equitable transition to a sustainable future.”

Bella Sankey, Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council, said: “For the first time in the city, the people most affected by climate change will be empowered to offer their perspectives and creative solutions, from reducing the impact on household bills and health to making a safe and healthy environment.”

Community Works will be encouraging our members to get involved. We’ll be offering a Green Champions programme, funding and supporting 30 VCS organisations in Brighton & Hove to take the Investors in the Environment Green Champions certification and to implement the learning within their work. We’ll also be featuring climate action stories and suggestions in our monthly newsletter and organising other events and activities.
